Right, well there are no album reviews this month so to speak. Not for lack of good material, mind. I just point your attention to the Boogaloo Pow Wow comp, the Beat Dimensions Comp and Dilla's Final (?) opus, Ruff Draft, which are all fine releases!

No no, we figured that we should spend a little time invested in the podcast which has remained fairly well-unupdated - like that old Atari sitting in the attic. SO! First we thought we'd do a little page for it and enlist our good friend Matrin L (see here for his mixes - scroll down) to lend a hand with curating and producing it. To start with we are updating it with the favourite mix from this issue, Mr Spankie Hazard's amazing Glory, Jest, Riddle Pt. 1. Watch out for regular updates with the man Martin L soon!

If the above fails then you can dload the mixes individually (links after tracklists).

spankie hazard :: glory, jest, riddle :: podcast 4

Spankie Hazard is one of the friendliest faces and dopest diggers you'll meet. Having spent years working the clubs and record stores of Melbourne - he has spent the last few years in Japan, where he continues to dig. Spankie makes mixes to tease the mind and shake the behind. If you heard his "A Game of Notes" mix in the last issue, you'll know what we're talking about. Here's Spankie describing his mixes:

"This is just a simple mix of music and spoken word, with which to contemplate the human condition. It was inspired by a poem by Alexander Pope. I think recent events have continued to remind us of how fucked-up, and yet at the same time, how incredibly wonderful we as human beings can be. This mix explores this in more detail through hip hop, jazz, obscure Japanese funk and lounge."

  Know then thyself, presume not God to scan
The proper study of Mankind is Man.
Placed on this isthmus of a middle state,
A Being darkly wise, and rudely great:
With too much knowledge for the Sceptic side,
With too much weakness for the Stoic's pride,
He hangs between; in doubt to act, or rest;
In doubt to deem himself a God, or Beast;
In doubt his mind and body to prefer;
Born but to die, and reas'ning but to err;
Whether he thinks to little, or too much;
Chaos of Thought and Passion, all confus'd;
Still by himself, abus'd or disabus'd;
Created half to rise and half to fall;
Great Lord of all things, yet a prey to all,
Sole judge of truth, in endless error hurl'd;
The glory, jest and riddle of the world.
Alexander Pope

declan kelly :: wedding arrival mix :: podcast 3

Dave and Stef were married in January 2007 in a beautiful service followed by a reception on the lake. Research and Development gave the gift of music to these nuptials. Here is the 'arrival selection', music for mingling and toasting and drinking champagne, for trying to find your name on one of the many white tables, for sitting down and trying to contain the giddy feeling inside you that two people close to you have found one another, put on their best, and said "I do". enjoy...
